  Shellshock can be sailed with as little as two people, but during race situations, the boat needs a crew of 4-6. This all depends on the race course, wind conditions and weight of the crew. Following are a list of responsibilities the each crew positions.

Bowman  
Aggressively balances the boat.  
Cunningham controls.  
Helping spinnaker out of the hatch.  
Furling the jib after the set.  
Gathering the spinnaker on the douse.  
Helps call out wind and waves.  
   
Mastman  
Calls out wind and waves.  
Outhaul controls.  
Boom vang controls.  
Jumps the halyard on the set.  
Gathers spinnaker on the douse.  
Aggressively balances the boat.  
   
Headsail Trimmer  
Jib sheet trim.  
Spinnaker sheet trim.  
Bowsprit on the set and douse.  
Tackline on the set and douse.  
Spinnaker halyard on the douse.  
Calls out wind, waves and overall fleet info.  
   
Main Trimmer  
Main sheet trim.  
Traveler adjustments.  
Assists with the spinnaker halyard on set.  
Communicates fleet concerns.  
   
Helmsman  
Drives the boat.  
Backstay controls.  
Sometimes eases the main on set.  
Communication needs for weight and sails.  
   
Sixth Person  
Aggressively balances the boat.  
Unfurls the jib on the douse.  
Easing the spinnaker halyard and tackline on the douse.
