Shellshock is a J/92 one design racing sailboat, designed by Rod Johnstone of J Boats. The first J/92 was built in 1992, with Shellshock being the 66th hull built in 1994 from the factory in Warren, Rhode Island. The boat's nomenclature is derived not from the year it was introduced, but from the length-over-all (LOA) of the boat at 92 decimeters (9.2 meters) or 30 feet.

"Here's a boat which is faster and more economical than IOR 3/4 tonners. It's a boat you can enjoy sailing, racing or cruising with friends while meeting others in places you've never sailed before." from J/Boats website.

The J/92 uses an asymmetrical spinnaker that is flown from a retractable 5.5 foot pole. This pole, also known as a bow sprit, is made out of carbon fiber and can be launched from the cockpit. This type of rigging allows you to jibe without anyone on the foredeck or resetting the pole to the other side.

In 1993, Sailing World's panel of experts and a poll of their readers, selected J/92 as 1992's Overall "Boat of the Year" among all sailboat types including multihulls.

"The J/92's stable and efficient hull form combines with an easy to trim sail plan. The boat offers a smaller nuclear crew, which means reduced campaign management (more time on the water, less on the phone); a sail inventory within most budgets; a big, easy-to-sail groove, and more time for tactics and strategy; the game we like!" from Sailing World magazine.

Shellshock, is named after a New Order song from their 1987 album, Substance. She is owned and operated by Jeremy Alexis and Anthony Marty. The first owners gave her the name of Turbulence, which stood until her current owners renamed her Shellshock, in June of 2006. The last J/92 (hull #180) was built from the factory in Rhode Island in 2003.

The J/92s, first introduced at a French boat show in 2005, is very similar to the J/92, with the exception of a newly designed cockpit, deck, keel, rudder, and sail plan with non-overlapping headsails.
